DSS Boosts Profile with Mainstream Deal

(12 Nov 2009)

mainstreamDSS, a Dublin-based provider of IT servies, has completed a €2.4 million deal with Mainstream Renewable Power.

Under the terms of the contract, DSS worked with HP, Cisco, Microsoft and WAN providers Eircom/Orange to implement new IT infrastructure across several Mainstream locations.

"Primarily it started off as rolling out client equipment and printers to their offices globally" , said Richard Nolan, Managing Director,DSS. "Then we were in competition for Mainstream's global IT infrastructure, which is a virtualised environment based on Microsoft Hyper-V technology and HP equipment."

DSS established infrastructure at two data centres in Dublin - one as the primary IT facility and the other as a back-up site.  It deployed Microsoft software across all of Mainstream's major applications - including ERP, collaboration, office productivity and server virtualisation - and piloted Windows 7, the new Microsoft operating system.

The contract provides for managed IT services, whereby DSS will place skilled technology specialists on-site with Mainstream to provide infrastructure maintenance and support.

It is also providing pre-configured systems and data storage systems to several Mainstream offices worldwide from its 10,000 sq ft fulfilment and technology centre in Ballymount, near Dublin.

DSS has operations in Dublin, Germany and Poland.  The company recorded revenues of 31 million for its financial year ended in July.

Nolan said the scale of the Mainstream deal had boosted the company's profile.  "It is an incredible reference site and we've won other business on the back of that.  Mainstream is an SME in terms of the numbers of employees but in terms of software, they are enterprise-class," he said.
